6000 stand for world peace in Ithaca New York. Beautiful!
As you know, peace has been on my mind lately and I was feeling a little discouraged a few days ago as I was wondering where all the hippies and flower children had gone. Seems we rarely hear about anything peace related from mainstream media. However, we all know that mainstream media doesn’t necessarily paint an accurate picture of what is going on in the world (ahem) and so I decided I would start searching for and reporting on peaceful demonstrations taking place around the world.
Just last week, in Ithaca New York, 6000 people took a stand for world peace by participating in a project organized by a 16 year old high school student named Trevor Dougherty. You may know Trevor from a video he made last year that was nominated in the YouTube Awards in the Most Inspirational category. His message ; Put an end to violence and strive for world peace.
This year, Trevor took the idea one step further as he decided to get about 5000 people to come together and make the worlds largest human peace sign. Thanks to his hard work and dedication, (during finals, no less) nearly 6000 people participated in the event taking place at the Ithaca Festival in June. To see Trevor lead the crowd, Have a look at the report from BBC News. It’s very inspiring. Trevor is now in talks to have this event be entered into the Guiness Book of World Records.
I’m so inspired by these kids who lead the way to peace! Good job Trevor! I must remember to visit Ithaca some day…
