Funny how the Universe works… You never really know what you set in motion by declaring an intent to do something.
On November 30th, I decided I would write 5 gratitude letters to people who do thankless but extremely important jobs. I was responding to the Faith in Humanity: How to Bring People Closer, and Restore Kindness post written by Leo Babauta.
On December 1st, I created a list of thankless jobs and then started to wonder how I would reach these strangers in order to send them my letters.
On December 4th, I was browsing around on Facebook when I found an old friend I hadn’t seen in over 15 years. We start catching up and lo and behold, he has been working as a 911 dispatcher and Paramedic for the past decade! I was blown away. Even though I always say there are no coincidences… I just have to say; what an amazing coincidence! It never gets old. I decided then and there, that my first letter of gratitude would be sent to Jean-Mari Dufresne and his coworkers. (See what you’ve started Leo?)
I always wonder what motivates someone to choose their job or career path. For Jean-Mari, it’s all about saving lives and helping people. Like I said to Jean-Mari, I want to help others as well but I don’t think I could put my finger in a bullet hole as I try to bring someone to the hospital. I thank the Universe that there are people like Jean-Mari who are ready and willing to do just that.
Want to get an idea of what it feels like to enter chaos, save someone’s life and exit unscathed? You’ll want to come back tomorrow because I’ll be sharing Jean-Mari’s incredible first hand account of the shootings that occurred at Dawson College on September 3rd, 2006. Who knew my long lost friend was a HERO!
