Unite in peace and reconnect with mother earth

We brought our son to the 10th Annual Batshaw Pow Wow on Saturday. We thought it would be an educational and fun outing for him but I had no idea I would meet a Mayan elder.
When we got to the Pow Wow we looked on as the different nations prepared for the event by dressing in their traditional garments. One elderly man had our attention for some reason… The Pow Wow started and the man in question was introduced as Manuel Jaguar Claw. He was of Mayan descent had travelled from Mexico to attend this Pow Wow with other nations (Mohawk and Cri) from both Canada and the US.
He led a very powerful prayer and meditation for peace and called to the other nations (he called them red, white, black and yellow ) to unite in peace to reconnect with Mother Earth.
He also led a special forgiveness prayer where he asked for the forgiveness of women for all the wrongs that have been done to them by men for a thousands of years.
He also spoke of the awakening of the consciousness of the Mexican people. He called it a consciousness movement that was aligned with the Mayan Prophecy.
I was moved by the simplicity of his words and the powerful effect they had on us and on the rest of the people who had gathered to hear him speak. To hear this Mayan Elder speak of peace and of uniting our hearts to heal the earth and heal each other was very inspirational. ( I also felt it was an odd coincidence since I was still reeling from the Apocalypto film I had seen the night before)
